Background

Institut Teknologi Brunei is the country’s premier institute of higher learning for technical education. Its faculties of Engineering and Business & Information Technology offer innovative and market-driven programmes. All ITB programmes have a Communication Skills component which is delivered by the Centre of  Communication, Teaching & Learning (CCTL). The Centre comprises a highly motivated group of local and international staff who are dedicated to achieving excellence in higher education and research.

Brunei Darussalam, “Abode of Peace”, is a Malay, Islamic Sultanate situated on the north coast of Borneo, South East Asia. It is the oldest Islamic Sultanate in the region, reflected in the grand palaces, mosques and the unique combination of modern and traditional Malay-Islamic architecture. The capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, lies on the banks of the Brunei River alongside the famous Kampong Ayer, also known as the “Venice of the East”. Here visitors will be intrigued by the houses built over the water and the splash and spray of water taxis as the locals travel to and from the mainland. Brunei Darussalam takes pride in its pristine rainforests and the world-class tropical forest research centre at Belalong. Tourists and nature lovers have the opportunity to enjoy the myriad of rare flora and fauna only a short distance from the capital. Brunei’s climate is tropical with warm days and cool evenings. Malay is the official language of the population of more than 300,000 people. English is widely spoken. The Brunei dollar is on a par with the Singapore dollar.
